  • Certified American Gold Eagles

Certified American Gold Eagles are those coins that have been received and graded by either the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation or the Professional Coin Grading Service. The coins are graded based on the overall visual appeal of the coin itself, as well as the quality of the design strike and the key details of the coin. Buying Certified American Gold Eagle Coins is the only way to ensure that you can receive a flawless or near-flawless coin.

    Certified Gold Eagle Details

Whether you purchase PCGS or NGC-certified American Gold Eagle at BGASC, you’ll find that there are a number of designations used by these grading houses that are identical or have similar meanings behind the terms. First and foremost, all coins are assigned a grade based on the Sheldon numeric scale, with a 0 representing a heavily damaged and/or flawed coin, while a 70 represents a perfect specimen. A wider breakdown of the terms is found below:

    • Mint State (MS) 70 – this is a perfect certification for a BU coin and indicates the presence of full, original mint luster with no detracting flaws of any kind.
    • Mint State (MS) 69 – these are near-perfect specimens with full, original mint luster and a maximum of two minor detractions that are limited in nature to minuscule contact marks or hairlines outside the primary focal points.
    • Early Release/First Strike – this indicates a coin that was received for certification within 30 days of release from the mint.
    • First Day of Issue – these are coins received for certification within 24 hours of release by the mint.
    • Advanced Release – a newer term, this identifies coins that were received for grading before the coins were available to the broader public.

    Proof Certification Details

While the above designations are possible for all coins, there are certain designations that apply only to proof specimens when it comes to the grading process. These are specific to proof coins because they point to the visual quality and appeal of the unique strikes. Examples include:

    • Deep Cameo (DCAM)/Ultra Cameo (UCAM) – this designation for proof coins indicates the presence of strong, frosted designs and deeply-mirrored, clear background fields.
