2024 Somalia Silver Elephant Coins at BGASC
The Somalia Silver Elephant is a highly intriguing series that has a long, yet slightly confusing history. The coin program debuted in 1999 in Zambia as the African Wildlife series. By 2004, the series transitioned to Somalia, and have been issued from this country ever since. These coins also showcase a new image of the elephant on the reverse with every issue. 2024 Design
The 2024 design showcases two male bull elephants engaged in a battle. The background features a stunning grassland scene with a sun in the top right.
BU Sizes Available
- 1 oz: 100 Somali Shillings
- 2 oz: 200 Somali Shillings
- 5 oz: 500 Somali Shillings
- 10 oz: 1,000 Somali Shillings
- 1 Kilo: 2,000 Somali Shillings
Unique Options
BU Coins for the 2024 release are available in several sizes, as seen above. There are also three other unique variations of these coins (proof, colorized, gilded) that are available in just a 1 oz weight.
- BU: Brilliant Uncirculated coins made from .9999 pure silver. The 1 oz coin is available in flips, tubes of 20, or Monster Boxes of 500. Larger sizes come in individual capsules.
- Colorized: Limited mintage of 5,000. A colorized lacquer is applied to the reverse field creating a stunning image.
- Gilded: Limited mintage of 3,000. A thin layer of 24-karat gold is applied just to the elephants on the reverse field.
- Proof: These proof strikes are also in high relief to create an almost 3D look and feel to the silver coin.
Packaging Options
The series also offers unique packaging options for collectors and special occasions.
- Baby Boy/ Girl: Celebrate the birth of a baby girl or baby boy with this option. These 1/10 oz BU coins are presented on a themed presentation card with either a pink or blue elephant.
- 7-Coin Collection: Limited release of just 300 coins. The set contains a total of 18.85 Troy oz of .9999 pure silver. Available in this set is a 10 oz, 5 oz, 2 oz, 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz, all in BU condition.
- Black and White Set: This 2-coin set contains two 1 Troy oz coins. One coin appears white, with black elephants, while the other features a black design with white elephants. This set has a limited release of just 500.
