The reverse of this coin features the American Bald Eagle. It is clutching arrows and an olive branch in its talons and has a shield upon its chest. Several markings are seen on the reverse, including the coins face value, United States Of America and In God We Trust. The reverse also features a grooved edge around the coin.
History
This coin was minted for a period of 69 years from 1838 to 1907. The design of the coin was the second design in the Gold Eagle series. The Gold Eagle design remains popular to this day, having been used on other forms of coinage and rounds for decades.
