90% Silver Mercury Dimes ($500 FV, Circulated)
Product Description
These unsearched, circulated 90% silver Mercury Dimes are being sold by the $500 face value bag (5,000 dimes). The Mercury Dime was designed by sculptor Adolph A. Weinman and was minted from 1916 – 1945. Although most commonly known as the “Mercury” dime, the obverse of this beautiful U.S. coin doesn’t actually depict the Roman messenger god. The portrait on this dime, also known as the Winged Liberty Head Dime, is of the mythological goddess Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap, a classic Western symbol of liberty and freedom, with its wings intended to symbolize freedom of thought. The reverse design, a fasces juxtaposed with an olive branch, was intended to symbolize America’s readiness for war, combined with its desire for peace. Each bag contains approximately 71.5 ozt of pure silver.
