Design
On the obverse of Copper Aztec Calendar Bars, there is a replica design of the historic Aztec Calendar stone. Around the outer edge, there are two serpents forming a ring. In the inner ring, you will see the cardinal directions and the words THE END IS NEAR. In the center of the design, there is an unknown deity surrounded by four sun gods of the Aztec culture. You will also see inscriptions beneath this rendition that read AM 5 OUNCES .999 FINE COPPER USA.
History
The Aztec Calendar, also known as the Sun Stone, is a giant disc-shaped sculpture created by the Aztecs from 1427 to 1479. Though never fully completed, the disc still offers a stunning depiction of Aztec cosmology. During its design, the Aztec people believed they were in the fifth and final era of man that would soon conclude with the arrival of a deadly earthquake. Following the Spanish Conquest, the stone was buried for over 200 years before being rediscovered in 1790. Currently, the artifact resides in the National Anthropology Museum in Mexico City.
