Obverse
The obverse of the 2025 1 oz Colorized Native America the Beautiful Iowa Silver Coin features an image of Sac & Fox tribal members performing a ceremonial burial. This design brings added depth through colorized details, including the garments placed on the effigy mound and the people participating in the sacred ritual.
Reverse
The reverse of the 2025 Colorized Native America the Beautiful Silver Coin features a bold design shared across the series. At the center is a bald eagle surrounded by an eight-pointed star. Between the points of the star, arrowheads add a striking detail, and the coins identifying marks complete the design.
History
Historically, the Sac and Fox tribes moved into present-day Iowa during the late 18th century. The Meskwaki (Fox) made an unprecedented move in 1857 when they purchased land in Tama County, Iowa – becoming one of the few tribes to buy back their own land. This settlement, known as the Meskwaki Settlement, continues to be home to many tribal members today and represents a unique case of Indigenous land ownership and sovereignty in the United States.
