Obverse
The obverse of the 2025 British Silver Beowulf and the Dragon Coin features King Charles III. This portrait, designed by Martin Jennings in 2022, is the first official likeness of the King used on British coinage. The left-profile relief shows Charles III without a crown.
Reverse
The reverse of 2025 1 oz Silver Beowulf and the Dragon Coins captures Beowulfs final testa battle against a dragon. Now an aging king, Beowulf faces the beast after a stolen treasure enrages it. Though no longer in his prime, he refuses to back down. The battle is fierce, as the dragons fire and venom make it a dangerous opponent. This moment is not just a test of strength but also a symbol of the end of Beowulfs legendary journey.
History
The poem Beowulf tells the story of a Geatish warrior who upholds the values of courage, strength, and loyalty. He first earns renown when he travels to Denmark to assist King Hrothgar, whose hall, Heorot, is plagued by the monstrous Grendel.
