Obverse

The obverse of the 2024 Proof NATB Delaware Silver Coins showcases Canadian geese flying over the Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge. Situated on the eastern shore of Kent County, Delaware, the refuge was established in 1937 as a sanctuary for migratory birds and other wildlife. It covers about 16,251 acres along the Delaware Bay.

Reverse

The reverse of the 2024 1 oz Proof Delaware Silver Coin displays a design common to all coins in this series: an American bald eagle’s head at the center of an eight-pointed star, with arrowheads placed between each point of the star.

History

The refuge encompasses a variety of habitats, including tidal salt marsh, freshwater impoundments, cordgrass meadows, mudflats, and upland forests. This diversity supports a wide range of wildlife and plant species. The tidal salt marsh, which makes up about 80% of the refuge, is one of the largest preserved stretches of tidal salt marsh along the mid-Atlantic coast.
