History
In the early 18th century, the Tuscarora people experienced conflicts with European settlers, leading to the Tuscarora War between 1711 and 1715. After their defeat, they migrated north and were accepted into the Iroquois Confederacy as the Sixth Nation in 1722. Some Tuscarora people remained in what is now West Virginia, specifically around Martinsburg.
