Obverse
On the obverse of the 2024 American Gold Eagles, you’ll find the historic image of Lady Liberty by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. This design, created in 1907, features Liberty walking towards the viewer in front-facing relief. She holds a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left.
Reverse
The reverse side of the 2024 1/2 oz Gold Eagle Coin features a captivating depiction of the American bald eagle. Designed by Jennie Norris in 2020 and debuted in mid-2021, this artwork portrays the bald eagle in impressive left-profile relief, showcasing intricate details of its plumage.
History
The United States Mint offers Gold Eagle coins in 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz weights. These four options are available annually in the BU series. The Proof coins were introduced in 1986 with 1 oz gold, while the fractional-ounce coins were introduced from 1987 to 1988. Burnished coins were first released in 2006 in all four weights, but as of 2011, they are only available in 1 oz gold.
