Each of these 2023 1 oz Somalia Silver Elephant Coins comes with a protective plastic flip when purchased individually. The coins are housed in acrylic tubes for multiples of 20 and in Monster Boxes for multiples of 500. Monster Boxes hold a total of 25 individual tubes. All coins are in Brilliant Uncirculated condition.
Obverse
In the obverse design of the 2023 Somalia Silver Elephant, the design field features the coat of arms of Somalia. This design consists of a crowned shield with a background of horizontal lines and a single star in the center. Leopards support the shield on either side as leaves and spears cross beneath.
Reverse
For the reverse field, the 2023 1 oz Silver Elephant features a new image of the African bush elephant. Exclusive to the 2023 release, this visual shows a bush elephants head in right-profile relief. It is shown using its large trunk to pull down a branch overhead and dine on the leaves of the tree.
History
Somalia Silver Elephant Coins were introduced by the Bavarian State Mint in 1999 as the Zambia Silver Elephant. From 1999 to 2003, the coins were issued with new reverse designs each year and the Zambian coat of arms on the obverse. Today, the coins still feature new reverse designs each year, with the Somali coat of arms on the obverse as of 2004.
