The reverse of the coin presents a detailed depiction of The Great Eastern. Designed by Brunel and constructed by John Scott Russell & Company, this historic ship took nearly four years to complete, with construction beginning in May 1854 and concluding in January 1858.
History
Despite its technological advancements, the Great Eastern faced several challenges and setbacks, including financial difficulties and a tragic accident during its early voyages. Over time, it was repurposed for different roles, such as a cable-laying ship for the transatlantic telegraph cable.
