History
The iconic mountain gorilla is a subspecies of the Eastern gorilla. Currently, estimates suggest there are just over 1,000 mountain gorillas left, which makes the subspecies Endangered. But thanks to conservation efforts, this number has increased from a mere 480 in 2010.
