These 2021 1 oz Proof American Silver Eagle Coins have earned a PF69 certification from the NGC, indicating full mint luster with a maximum of two minor detracting flaws. These flaws are limited to minuscule contact marks or hairlines found outside the primary focal points of the coin. The coins also come with UCAM and Early Release designations. Ultra-cameo coins feature strong, frosted designs with deeply-mirrored, clear fields, while Early Release coins were graded within 30 days of original release.

Obverse

The obverse visuals on the 2021 1 oz Proof American Silver Eagle Coins feature the iconic Walking Liberty design by Adolph A. Weinman, dating back to 1916. The Type 2 release includes Weinmans original AW signature mark within the obverse field.

Reverse

The reverse imagery showcases the striking new look of the American bald eagle, designed by Emily Damstra. The eagle is depicted in flight, holding a large oak branch. The coins now feature a reeded edge variation, providing enhanced anti-counterfeiting defense.

History

In October 2019, the United States Mint announced plans to refresh the reverse field of its American Silver and American Gold Eagle Coins for the 2021 date mark, coinciding with the 35th-anniversary celebration. However, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, plans were altered.

Unprecedented demands and adjusted work schedules delayed the release of the new reverse design element on the 2021 coins. The US Mint ended up releasing two versions of the 2021 Proof Eagle, Type 1 and Type 2, initially offering the original design combinations before transitioning to the new reverse.
