The reverse of the 2018 1 oz American Gold Eagle Coin showcases an American bald eagle in flight, carrying an olive branch over its nest. Below, eager hatchlings await, guarded by a vigilant female. The American Gold Eagle coin made its debut in 1986, introducing both bullion and proof versions. Uniquely, it is the only major bullion coin program from the United States Mint offering fractional-weight options available solely in bullion and proof versions.
