Obverse

The coin’s design beautifully encapsulates core American values. On the obverse, Adolph A. Weinman’s “Walking Liberty” depicts Lady Liberty walking through an open field towards the rising sun, draped in a toga adorned with the stars and stripes of our nation’s flag. With one arm holding a bundle of oak and olive branches, she extends the other in a welcoming gesture, symbolizing opportunities and a better life.

Reverse

On the reverse, John Mercanti’s rendition of the heraldic eagle takes center stage. This iconic crest features the national bird spreading its wings around a star-spangled shield, carrying a banner with the words “E Pluribus Unum” in its beak. Clutching an olive branch and a set of arrows, the eagle symbolizes our pursuit of peace and the defensive measures needed to maintain it. Thirteen stars above represent the original colonies, and Mercanti completes the design with inscriptions of “United States of America,” the coin’s weight, and denomination.
