The 2013 1 oz Proof Mexican Silver Libertad Coins come in an acrylic capsule and have a mintage of 9,100 coins. This is higher than the 2012 (4,200) and 2014 (4,700) coins. The Proof coins feature frosted designs with mirrored backgrounds.

Obverse

On the obverse of the 2013 Proof Mexican Silver Libertad, you’ll see the Mexican coat of arms. This design highlights a golden eagle in left-profile relief, locked in a struggle with a serpent. The eagle is perched on a prickly pear cactus, surrounded by 10 historical renditions of the seal.

Reverse

The reverse side of 2013 1 oz Proof Silver Libertad Coins features the Winged Victory figure, modeled after the statue that stands atop the Mexican Independence Victory Column in Mexico City. Behind Winged Victory, you can see the volcanic peaks of Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl.

History

The Proof Mexican Silver Libertad Coins first appeared in 1983 with a 1 oz silver coin. The series became an annual release in 1986, initially with just the 1 oz option until 1991. From 1992, fractional-ounce proof coins were added, followed by 2 oz and 5 oz sizes in 1996, and a 1 Kilo coin in 2002.
