2012-W 1/2 oz US Mint First Spouse Alice Paul Gold Coin PCGS MS70 (David Hall Signed Label)
Product Description
The First Spouse Series from the United States Mint was created to honor the First Ladies who supported Americas presidents. However, with the 2012 release for President Chester A. Obverse
The obverse of the 2012-W US Mint First Spouse Alice Paul Gold Coin features a portrait of Alice Paul, commemorating her role in the womens suffrage movement. She played a key part in the ratification of the 19th Amendment, which granted women the right to vote in 1920, and later authored the Equal Rights Amendment to push for broader gender equality.
Reverse
On the reverse of the 2012-W 1/2 oz First Spouse Alice Paul Gold Coin, a suffragette is shown marching forward with an American flag. She wears a sash that reads VOTES FOR WOMEN, representing the movements efforts to secure womens voting rights in the early 20th century.
History
Chester A. Arthur is one of a few U.S. Presidents who served without a First Lady. His wife, Nell Arthur, passed away in 1880, over a year before he took office following the assassination of President James A. Garfield.
