Product Description
Introduced by the Royal Canadian Mint in 1988, the Canadian Silver Maple Leaf Coin was the first to offer .9999 fine silver on a large production scale. BGASC now offers the 2011 1 oz Canadian Silver Maple Leaf Coin to customers.
Highlights:
- Comes with individual flips or plastic tubes of 25 coins!
- 25th issue in the Silver Maple Leaf series!
- Each coin contains 1 Troy oz of .9999 pure silver in BU condition.
- The face value of $5 (CAD) is fully backed by the Canadian government.
- Obverse features an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II.
- Reverse displays the iconic sugar maple leaf.
All 2011 1 oz Canadian Silver Maple Leaf Coins from BGASC arrive in protective plastic flips. Larger orders may be shipped in tubes of 25 coins, if available.
Obverse
On the front of each coin is a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. This version of the Queens profile was designed by Canadian artist Susanna Blunt in 2003. Its notable for being the fourth official image used on Canadian coins and for showing the Queen without a crown. Blunt was only the second Canadian artist to be selected to design a monarchs effigy.
Reverse
The reverse side includes the classic sugar maple leaf. Designed by Walter Ott, the image was first used in 1979 on the Gold Maple Leaf. The maple leafs importance in Canadian history goes back even further, with the 1867 song The Maple Leaf Forever helping to cement its place as a national symbol.
History
The maple leaf has long served as a symbol of Canada. In 1965, it was officially adopted as the nations central emblem with the creation of the current Canadian flag. The designfeaturing a bold red maple leaf with 11 points on a white field with red borderswas selected following a national design search led by Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson.
