Obverse

Adorning the obverse of the 2010-W Proof American Silver Eagle Coin is the timeless Walking Liberty design by Adolph A. Weinman, symbolizing the nation’s unwavering march toward a brighter future since its inception in 1916.

Reverse

On the reverse of 2010-W 1 oz Proof Silver Eagles, John Mercanti’s heraldic eagle design, introduced in 1986, remained a steadfast emblem until his retirement in 2010 as Chief Engraver of the United States Mint.

History

From 1986 to 2008, Proof American Silver Eagle coins were an annual tradition, briefly interrupted in 2009 due to economic uncertainty. Despite the absence of the proof version, the American Silver Eagle achieved record sales of 30.46 million bullion coins in 2009, driven by increased demand for investment-grade precious metals.

The resurgence of the proof version in 2010, alongside ongoing economic challenges, led to heightened demand. This year witnessed the production of 34.7 million bullion coins and the issuance of nearly 850,000 proof coins. Notably, 2010 remains the year with the lowest mintage for the Proof American Silver Eagle post-2009.
