Gold Panda Coins from China have been in production since 1982. When first introduced, the coins were offered in Troy ounce weights of 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz, with a 1/20 oz option added in 1983. Each 2010 1 oz Chinese Gold Panda Coin is shipped in a sealed plastic pouch. This release is the 29th in the series and among the last to use a Troy ounce weight. In 2016, the Chinese Mint transitioned to the metric system, updating the coin to a 30 Gram weight going forward.

Obverse

The 2010 Gold Panda Coins obverse shows the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests, a major feature of the Temple of Heaven in Beijing. This structure appears on all Gold Panda Coins and represents the coins link to Chinese heritage and architecture.

Reverse

The reverse design for 2010 depicts two Giant Pandas sitting together with a bamboo backdrop. Additional bamboo shoots appear around them in the foreground. These yearly reverse designs showcase a variety of panda scenes, making each issue distinct.

History

Pandas are known for being solitary animals. Adults live alone and mostly interact during breeding season. They use scent marks as a primary way to communicate, leaving behind chemical messages that provide details about territory and mating.
