While some weights, like the 1/10 oz and 1 Kilo gold coins, experienced increased demand, others saw a decline. Notably, the 1 oz gold coin witnessed a year-over-year drop of 145,787 coins from 2009 to 2010.

Obverse

On the obverse side, the 2010 Australian Gold Kangaroos showcase a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II in right-profile relief, adorned with the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara, a design by Ian Rank-Broadley from 1998.

Reverse

The reverse side features two male kangaroos engaged in a friendly boxing match, a behavior characteristic of male kangaroos during the breeding season. Standing on their hind legs, they spar for a mate.

History

This boxing behavior is more of a sparring match than an actual aggressive fight. It is believed to establish dominance and hierarchy within the kangaroo population. This “boxing” involves the kangaroos using their powerful hind legs to kick each other and their tails for balance, while occasionally using their smaller front limbs to jab or grapple.
