That year, the Mexican Mint introduced a full lineup of sizes1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/10 oz, and 1/20 ozwhich have been issued every year since. These 2008 1/10 oz Proof Mexican Gold Libertads come packaged in individual plastic capsules. The mintage for this coin was set at 500, which was also the mintage for the 1 oz, 1/2 oz, and 1/20 oz versions. Only the 1/4 oz coin had a larger total with 800 pieces. Each coin features frosted details over a mirror-like background.

Obverse

On the obverse side of the 2008 1/10 oz Proof Gold Libertad, youll find the national seal of Mexico. The artwork shows a golden eagle facing left, standing on a cactus while grasping a snake. The eagles wings are raised, and this scene comes from an ancient Aztec story.

Reverse

The reverse of the 2008 Proof Gold Libertad features the image of Winged Victory, a famous statue that stands on the Mexican Independence Victory Column. In the distance, you can see the twin mountain peaks of Popocatpetl and Iztacchuatl.

History

Prior to becoming an annual series in 2004, the Proof Gold Libertad was released only twice. The first issue came in 1983 with a limited 1 oz coin, and the second in 1989, which featured 704 coins in the 1/2 oz size. After that, no further Proof coins were released until 2004.
