History

Produced by the United States Mint, all American Gold Eagle coins are crafted at the West Point Mint facility. In 2003, the 1 oz Gold Eagle entered a two-year period of increased demand. Following the Y2K crisis at the end of the 1990s, the early 2000s saw rapidly declining demand, with mintages falling from 1.505 million coins in 1999 to just 143,605 coins in 2001.
