The Chinese Mint declared a total mintage of 500,000 coins for the 2001 release of Silver Pandas, though the mintage is believed to have been split between a domestic-only release and a wider international release. The Hall of Prayer is part of the Taoist religious site known as the Temple of Heaven Complex.

History

By the mid-20th century, giant pandas were critically endangered due to habitat loss and poaching. Efforts to conserve the species began in earnest, including the establishment of panda reserves in China.
