History

The Douglas A4 Skyhawk was created by the Douglas Aircraft Company at the request of the Navy. Ed Heinemann and the Douglas Aircraft Company were able to meet all the requirements of the Navy while producing an aircraft lighter and faster than expected. Nearly 3,000 variations of this aircraft were made during a 25-year period.
