Product Description

Since its release in 1982, the Chinese Gold Panda has become a well-known series among gold collectors. At its debut, the lineup included 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz coins, with the 1/20 oz coin joining in 1983. A popular feature of this series is the yearly change in panda artwork, which adds variety to each release. BGASC now offers the 1998 1/2 oz Chinese Gold Panda Coin online.

Highlights:

  • Coin arrives in a sealed plastic pouch!
  • 17th year for the Gold Panda Series!
  • Small Date specimens!
  • Limited mintage of only 4,168 coins!
  • Contains 1/2 Troy oz of .999 pure gold.
  • Issued a face value of 50 Yuan by China.
  • Obverse features the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests.
  • Reverse includes a depiction of a panda with bamboo in its paw.

Each 1998 1/2 oz Chinese Gold Panda Coin is shipped in a sealed plastic pouch. These are Small Date versions, meaning the date on each coin features a more compact number style. Just 4,168 of these coins were produced in total.

Obverse

On the obverse side of the 1998 1/2 oz Gold Panda Coin, youll find the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests. This structure is located in the Temple of Heaven in Beijing and has been the standard design for Gold Panda obverses since the beginning. The image highlights the buildings outer architecture.

Reverse

For the reverse of this 1998 Gold Panda release, the featured artwork shows a Giant Panda sitting on a rocky ledge with bamboo nearby. One of the pandas paws holds a bamboo branch. Though pandas are considered part of the carnivore group, their diet is nearly all bamboo, which makes them a dietary outlier in that classification.

History

Pandas may also occasionally eat other plant-based foods, small animals, or eggs. However, their digestive systems only extract a small amount of nutrition from bamboo. Because of this, pandas tend to have lower energy and slower breeding compared to other bear species.
