Product Description

The Chinese Gold Panda series began in 1982 and has become a favorite for its changing annual designs and its tribute to the Giant Panda. Each release features new artwork on the reverse, making it a standout among modern bullion coins. BGASC now offers the 1994 1/2 oz Chinese Gold Panda Coin with the Small Date engraving.

Highlights:

  • Coin ships in a sealed plastic pouch!
  • 13th release in the Chinese Gold Panda series!
  • Mintage limited to just 16,788 coins!
  • Includes the Small Date version of the 1994 issue!
  • Contains 1/2 Troy oz of .999 fine gold.
  • Issued with a face value of 50 Yuan from China.
  • Obverse displays the Temple of Heavens Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests.
  • Reverse shows a panda sitting and eating in a bamboo grove.

Each 1994 1/2 oz Chinese Gold Panda Coin comes sealed in a plastic pouch. This version features what is known as the Small Date variety. Compared to the Large Date version, the numbers on the date here are shorter and closer together, giving the coin a distinct appearance.

Obverse

The obverse of the 1994 1/2 oz Gold Panda Coin presents the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests, an iconic building in Beijings Temple of Heaven complex. The image shows the front of the structure, capturing its architectural features in fine detail. Around the building, youll find Chinese inscriptions and the year of minting. This design has remained consistent on all Gold Panda coins since their first release.

Reverse

On the reverse side, the coin features a relaxed Giant Panda surrounded by bamboo, calmly enjoying a meal. This particular design shows a more peaceful scene, different from the action poses seen in earlier issues, and highlights the panda’s quiet lifestyle and connection to its natural surroundings.

History

In the wild, pandas feed almost entirely on bamboo and move frequently to find fresh patches. The different parts of bamboo plants provide different nutrients, so pandas often choose specific sections depending on the season and availability.
