Obverse

The obverse face of the 1986 1 oz American Gold Eagle Coin features the image of Lady Liberty. This iconic and historic design was handcrafted by Augustus Saint Gaudens whose design was originally featured on the $20 Gold Double Eagle. She is depicted in a flowing gown wielding a torch and an olive branch.

Reverse

The reverse face of the 1986 1 oz American Gold Eagle Coin features the iconic design from Miley Busiek. This is the bald Eagle family which has graced the reverse face of this series for a long time. It depicts a male eagle soaring high over his family as the female counterpart watches from the safety of her nest along with her hatchlings.
