History

The design for the Silver Dollar emerged from a contest held after the Morgan Silver Dollar era. Anthony de Francisci, the youngest competitor, secured the win with his design. Francisci was also among the least experienced as his only previous work with the US Mint involved the 1920 Maine commemorative half dollar.
