Obverse

On the front of the 1881 Morgan Silver Dollars, you will find George T. Morgan’s portrayal of Liberty’s left-profile bust. This depiction showcases Liberty adorned with coronet and laurel wreath crowns on her head, encircled by a design field containing a ring of 13 stars.

Reverse

The reverse side of the 1881-S Morgan Dollar presents George T. Morgan’s depiction of the heraldic eagle. While it omits the US national shield seen in other versions, it does include customary design components such as the arrows denoting war and the olive branch symbolizing peace.

History

The San Francisco Mint building used from 1874 to 1937 was repurposed as a museum after its closure. Today, it is known as the San Francisco Mint Museum and offers visitors a chance to explore its historical exhibits, learn about the minting process, and discover the fascinating stories of the mint’s past.
