The SS Tilawa, often called the “Indian Titanic,” met a tragic end in the Indian Ocean during World War II. Torpedoed by Japanese forces while sailing from Bombay to Durban, the ship never reached its destination. Among the losses were 2,364 silver bars, which sank with the vessel. After lying on the ocean floor for decades, a 2017 recovery mission salvaged around 60 tons of silver, leading to the creation of the SS Tilawa Shipwreck Silver Series. Right now, 100 oz S.S. History

The SS Tilawa Shipwreck Silver Series celebrates the recovery of this long-lost treasure. The SS Tilawa was sunk by a Japanese submarine on November 23, 1942, while carrying 60 tons of silver bullion. After its rediscovery in 2014, a recovery mission in 2017 brought this silver back to the surface, and these newly minted bars now offer a tangible connection to that history.
