This series introduced 10 unique beasts representing different parts of the monarchys lineage, with designs inspired by the creatures used during King Henry VIIIs time. This 10 oz edition is part of a larger product range that includes 1 oz silver and 1 oz gold options. Mintage of this version is limited to just 6,000 bars.

Obverse

On the obverse of theRoyal Mint Queens Beast Collection Silver Bar is a design by Jody Clark. At the center is Queen Elizabeth II, shown using Mary Gillicks 1952 portrait. Around her are the 10 beasts from the series: the Lion of England, Griffin of Edward III, Falcon of the Plantagenets, Black Bull of Clarence, Yale of Beaufort, White Lion of Mortimer, White Greyhound of Richmond, Red Dragon of Wales, Unicorn of Scotland, and White Horse of Hanover.

Reverse

The reverse of the 10 oz Queens Beast Collection Silver Bar features a detailed guilloche background pattern and The Royal Mints official emblem. This side also includes markings for the bars metal type, weight, and purity.

History

These designs were based on the sculptures created by James Woodford for Queen Elizabeth IIs coronation ceremony. Each of the 10 beasts stood six feet tall and featured a shield with a family crest. They were made in a heraldic style and combined elements of both medieval symbolism and modern art. These statues lined the Queens path at Westminster Abbey as she entered for the coronation in 1953.
