The Texas State Capitol in Austin, while not the tallest state capitol in the country, is cherished by Texans for being 15 feet taller than the U.S. Capitol in Washington DC. Completed between 1882 and 1888, this structure is the third capitol building in Texas. The previous one, built in 1853, was lost in the 1881 fire.
