History
The Queens Beasts were originally inspired by a display from the 16th century. In the 1530s, King Henry VIII had a series of large plaster statues made to line the bridge leading to Hampton Court Palace. These beasts were symbolic of his royal heritage and intended as a permanent show of power. In contrast, the statues used at Queen Elizabeth IIs coronation were temporary, though they served a similar purpose.
