History
The S.S. Tilawa met a tragic end during World War II. Initially used by the Royal Navy as a troop transport between British ports in India, the ship set off on a voyage from Bombay (now Mumbai) to Durban, South Africa, in November 1942. On board were 732 passengers, 222 crew members, and 600 tons of cargo, including 60 tons of silver in the form of 2,364 bars. Unfortunately, the Tilawa never made it to its destination.
