A half circle of stars is placed beneath her, with E PLURIBUS UNUM inscribed above. The reverse side of the bar offers a repeating star pattern.
History
The Morgan Silver Dollar was introduced in 1878 following a pause in silver dollar production. This pause came after the Coinage Act of 1873, which ended the free minting of silver coins. When the silver dollar returned, George T. Morgans new design was chosen to grace the coin. His vision of Lady Liberty became one of the most beloved depictions of Liberty in American coinage history.
