Designs

Each years Proof American Platinum Eagle Coins bring unique designs to collectors. Between 1997 and 2017, the obverse featured John Mercantis iconic Statue of Liberty design, while the reverse depicted varying scenes such as eagles or other national symbols. Since 2018, the reverse has a consistent eagle design, with the obverse featuring different depictions of Liberty.

History

American Platinum Eagles are the third major bullion series from the US Mint and are the only platinum coins produced annually. The Proof and BU versions of these coins have been limited to 1 oz platinum since 2009.
