History

The Gold Double Eagle design was first used in 1986 and was produced by the U.S. Mint. The design has stood the test of time and remains used to this day. The U.S. Mint has several branches, but only mints these proof coins at the West Point, NY facility. Each coin features a W stamp on it for this reason.
