Obverse

On the obverse side, you’ll find Scottsdale Mints signature markers. The Scottsdale Lion, the mints emblem, is displayed on the right side, while the Scottsdale Mint name appears on the left. The bars weight, purity, and metal content are noted at the top.

Reverse

The reverse showcases the modern Union Flag, often referred to as the Union Jack. This design merges three older flags: the red cross of St. George (England), the white diagonal cross of St. Andrew (Scotland), and the red diagonal cross of St. Patrick (Ireland), symbolizing the union of the British Isles.

History

The Union Flag took its current form in 1801 following the Acts of Union 1800, which united Great Britain and Ireland. The red saltire of St. Patrick was incorporated into the design to represent Ireland. This addition was achieved by counterchanging the saltires of St. Andrew and St. Patrick, creating the asymmetrical design we see today.
