History

The Commonwealth Star, also known as the Federation Star, is a unique feature of the Australian flag. It has seven points representing the six states of Australia and one point for the territories. Originally, this star had only six points, but a seventh was added in 1908 to represent the territories of Papua and any future territories. This star symbolizes the unity of the Australian states and territories within the federal system.
