Obverse
On the obverse of the Canadian Silver Maple Leaf Coin is a depiction of Queen Elizabeth II. Introduced in 1988, it is possible for one of three portraits of the Queen to feature on the coins. The most likely portraits youll find on these coins are the third-generation design created in 1990 by Dora de Pedery-Hunt and used through 2002. The fourth-generation design created by Susanna Blunt has been in use on the coins since 2003.
Reverse
The reverse face of 1 oz Silver Maple Leaf Coins includes a design of the sugar maple leaf. Created in 1979 by Walter Ott, this image has featured on the silver coin throughout its production history. It has also featured on the Canadian Gold Maple Leaf since its 1979 debut, and is also in use on the Canadian Maple Leaf Platinum and Palladium coins.
History
Canadian Maple Leaf 1 oz Silver Coins were introduced in 1988 by the Royal Canadian Mint at the same time that the Canadian Maple Leaf Platinum Coin was introduced. The Canadian Maple Leaf Palladium Coin was the last to be released and has had an on-again, off-again production schedule since its introduction.
