Obverse
The obverse of the Canadian Silver Maple Leaf features one of three portraits of Queen Elizabeth II. The initial design, used on coins from 1988 and 1989, was created by Arnold Machin. From 1990 to 2003, the coins display Dora de Pedery-Hunts portrait of the Queen. Coins minted from 2004 onwards showcase Susanna Blunts depiction of Her Majesty.
Reverse
The reverse side of each 1 oz Silver Maple Leaf Coin showcases the iconic sugar maple leaf, along with engravings indicating the nation of issue, the coins purity, metal content, and weight. The obverse highlights one of the three portraits of Queen Elizabeth II mentioned above.
History
The Canadian Silver Maple Leaf made its debut in 1988, following the gold version that was introduced nearly a decade earlier. The designs on both the obverse and reverse are shared with the gold variant, with only the depiction of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse changing over time to reflect her age.
