Each 1 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coin in this listing comes from a random year of issue. Coins are individually housed in plastic flips, while multiples of 10 may be secured in plastic tubes. The Gold Maple Leaf was originally struck in .999 pure gold from 1979 to 1982, transitioning to .9999 pure gold in 1983. Since these coins are made of 24-karat gold, minor surface marks such as small nicks or scratches may be present.
Obverse
The obverse of the 1 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coin showcases either Queen Elizabeth II or King Charles III, depending on the issue year. Coins dated 1983 to 2023 feature one of three portraits of Queen Elizabeth II: Arnold Machins effigy (1983-1989), Dora de Pedery-Hunts portrait (1990-2004), or Susanna Blunts depiction (2005-2023). In 2024, a new portrait by Steven Rosati was introduced, presenting King Charles III in a left-profile design.
Reverse
The reverse of the Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coin displays the series signature design: the sugar maple leaf. Created by Walter Ott, this image has appeared on Gold Maple Leafs since the series began in 1979.
History
For over four decades, the Gold Maple Leaf Series featured Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. Between 1979 and 2023, four different portraits of the Queen were used. In 2024, King Charles III was introduced for the first time in the series. Since 1990, the portraits of Canadian monarchs on the Gold Maple Leaf have been designed by Canadian artists.
