Product Description

The 35% Silver War Nickel is a rare and valuable addition to any coin collection. In addition to their rarity and historical significance, 35% Silver War Nickels are also unique because of their physical appearance. Unlike other nickels, which have a bright, shiny appearance, these coins have a dull, grayish color due to their silver content. This gives them a distinct look and sets them apart from other coins. Today, BGASC offers 35% Silver War Nickels to you in $1 lots for purchase online.

  • Arrives in plastic bags!
  • Includes 20 coins in total!
  • Available with dates from 1942 to 1945!

BGASC has the 35% Silver War Nickels available to you in plastic bags. Each bag has a total of 20 individual coins for a total of $1 (USD). All of these coins feature the Jefferson Nickel imagery and have only 35% nickel in the metallic composition.

Obverse

The obverse of the 35% Silver War Nickel features a portrait of Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States. This left-profile bust has been on the US Nickel since it was designed in 1938.

Reverse

On the reverse of 35% Silver War Nickels, you will find a depiction of Monticello. This is the home of Jefferson in his native Virginia.

History

During World War II, the demand for nickel became so high that the United States Mint was forced to look for an alternative material to produce coins. In 1942, the Mint began producing nickels with a composition of 35% silver, 56% copper, and 9% manganese. This change in composition allowed the nickel to be used in the war effort, as the silver could be used to create vital military equipment. These 35% Silver War Nickels were produced from 1942 to 1945.
