Product Description

Available as low as $4.99 per round over spot!

During World War II, the S.S. Tilawa met a tragic fate, sinking in the Indian Ocean and taking more than 2,000 silver bullion bars with it. The wreck wasnt discovered until years later, and in 2017, a salvage operation recovered the silver bars. Today, this shipwreck silver has been used to produce collectible rounds and bars, including the 1/4 oz S.S. Tilawa Silver Round, now available from BGASC.

Highlights:

  • Comes in a protective plastic flip, a tube of 20, or a box of 800!
  • Part of the Tilawa Shipwreck Silver series!
  • Struck with silver salvaged from the wreck of the S.S. Tilawa!
  • Contains 1/4 Troy oz of .999 pure silver.
  • The obverse shows the Tilawa on its final journey.
  • The reverse features the ship sailing across the Indian Ocean.

Each 1/4 oz S.S. Tilawa Silver Round is crafted from this recovered shipwreck silver and is packaged in a protective plastic flip, tube of 20, or box of 800 rounds. These rounds offer a special opportunity to hold a piece of history, with silver that once lay on the ocean floor.

Obverse

The obverse of the S.S. Tilawa Silver Round features an aerial view of the ship cutting through the Indian Ocean. A detailed nautical chart in the background traces the ships final voyage in 1942 from Bombay, India, to Durban, South Africa.

Reverse

On the reverse, the S.S. Tilawa is shown in profile as it sails across the waters of the Indian Ocean. This design serves as a lasting tribute to the ship and its place in maritime history.

History

The recovery mission in 2017 retrieved approximately 61 tons of silver bars from the depths of the ocean. These silver bars, lost for decades, were part of the cargo the S.S. Tilawa carried on its ill-fated voyage in 1942. The success of this operation reignited interest in the ships history and the potential of recovering valuable treasures from other sunken ships.
