The Peace Silver Dollar stands as the final 90% silver dollar issued for use in the U.S. economy. First struck in late 1921, it marked the return of silver dollar coinage after a long hiatus. Designed by Anthony de Francisci, the winning design was chosen through a national competition among some of the countrys leading artists in the 1920s. This grade indicates that the coin retains high-quality luster, with minor contact marks or a few larger marks that dont detract from the overall quality. The coin also might show some faint hairlines on its fields, which is expected given its age.

Obverse

The obverse of the 1925 Peace Dollar Coin features a beautiful left-profile portrait of Lady Liberty, her flowing hair crowned by radiant light. The inscriptions on this side of the coin include the year of issue and the national motto.

Reverse

On the reverse of the 1925 Peace Silver Dollar, the American bald eagle is depicted perched on a rock, holding an olive branch in its talons. The eagles wings are folded, and it gazes forward as sunlight beams in the background.

History

Introduced in December 1921, the Peace Silver Dollar was designed to replace the Morgan Silver Dollar, which had briefly returned earlier that same year. During the series’ production, the mintages varied from year to year, with high production in the early years followed by significantly lower mintages in the later years. The 1925 coins minted at Philadelphia numbered 10.198 million, while the San Francisco Mint produced 1.61 million.
