History
The Morgan Dollar was initially created in large quantities to support silver as a monetary standard, under the Bland-Allison Act, which required the US government to buy silver and mint it into coins. Eventually, the Morgan Dollar was replaced by the Peace Dollar, a coin designed to celebrate the peace following World War I.
