Each coin includes four advanced security features on the reverse: a wavy background pattern, a latent security element, micro-text surrounding the design, and tincture lines on the Union Jack.
Obverse
On the obverse of the 2025 British Gold Britannia is the first-generation portrait of King Charles III, crafted by Martin Jennings in late 2022 to replace images of Elizabeth II. This effigy made its debut on the 2023 Britannia Coins, showing Charles III in a left-profile relief without a crown.
Reverse
The reverse of the 2025 1/2 oz Gold Britannia Coin features Britannia standing on coastal land, holding a trident and an olive branch over the Union Jack shield. She wears a Corinthian helmet on her head.
History
As the British Empire evolved into the Commonwealth during the 20th century, Britannia’s role shifted from a symbol of imperial might to a representation of Britains historical legacy and cultural identity.
