Obverse
The obverse of the 2025 American Gold Eagle showcases a renowned design by Augustus Saint-Gaudens from 1907. This design portrays Liberty walking forward, holding a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other, with stars and sunrays in the background.
Reverse
The reverse side of 2025 1/2 oz Gold Eagle Coins features a modern portrayal of the American bald eagle, introduced in July 2021. Created by Jennie Norris, this design shows the eagles head in profile and represents the first change to the Gold Eagles reverse design in its history.
History
Each year, American Gold Eagles are offered in both Brilliant Uncirculated and Proof versions, with various weight options. The 1 oz gold coin is the most well-known, while the 1/2 oz coin is the largest fractional-ounce option. The 1/2 oz Gold Eagle first appeared in 1986 for the BU Series and in 1987 for the Proof Series.
